do you know of any natural cures for a mild swollen gum infection?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

i may have the beginings of a absis from a recent crown. i am curious to know if there are any possible natural cures. i wish to avoid antibiotics if possible. i know clove may help with pain for example. i am not sure if it can fight infectio? thanks for your att.

Natural potent antibiotics are grapefruit seed extract and oregano oil. You only really need to try one or the other. I would probably opt for grapefruit seed extract. Follow the instructions on the bottle or run a search for more information. It is now being used in some US hospitals to help combat the MRSA infection. It is thus pretty potent stuff. But I think a re-visit to the dentist is in order because if you do have an abscess it might need draining or flushing out.

Take Ibuprofen for the pain. But get the appointment booked at the dentist if you want to avoid emergency treatment costs. It might be that any treatment you may need might fall within the costs of your current crown treatment if it was very recent.

Good luck and best wishes.

Can someone suggest natural cures for diabetes?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I am tired of taking medications for years for my diabetes. As I grow older I want to reduce medication and switchover to natural cures if possible.

Diabetes is not reversible. Please don’t discontinue any medication without discussing it with your doctor, and PLEASE don’t take advice from people who know so little about diabetes that they refer you to bastions of quackery like Mercola and Natural News.

You don’t give your age, and you don’t say whether you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or whether it’s insulin you are taking.

But in another question you talk about your love of junk food and how you don’t understand how it can be bad for you.

Type 2 diabetes can often be controlled by diet alone; mine is. And junk food has no part in a diet for controlling type 2 diabetes. At my 6 monthly check ups, my average glucose level for the previous 3 months is regularly around 5.2; I don’t know where you live or how that translates, but it’s very good control. But I know that however controlled it is, however low I keep my blood glucose levels – I’ll still always be diabetic.

There are no ‘natural cures’ for diabetes. It’s a bugger; I wish I wasn’t diabetic too, but it’s with me for life. It is for you too. I manage to keep on the straight and narrow by asking myself which I want more, chocolate or my feet? Junk food or my eyesight? No contest. If I had to take medication for diabetes my attitude would be the same.

Please don’t run the risk of uncontrolled diabetes and the dire consequences that can have by abandoning your meds and going for any of the dubious (at best) ‘cures’ that may be recommended here.

What can we as a community do to increase doctor’s use of natural cures?

Friday, March 19th, 2010

The more I look into natural cures the more I see their usefulness. Obviously the drug industry is of significant value, however there is one huge hole in the system: drug companies will never spend their billions on natural cures because they can’t be patented.

If drug companies don’t spend their money on the research then who does? Its up to the universities and government agencies to do so. They don’t have the funds to do many studies and the studies they do are small and considered preliminary at best.

Without the research, doctors will never prescribe or recommend the treatment for fear of a malpractice lawsuit. Their malpractice insurance companies will not cover them for providing controversial treatment.

So we come back to doctors only being able to fill our bodies with alien chemicals that do one thing, but cause other parts of our bodies not to function correctly.

I think this is a serious problem as many needs can be addressed with nutrition and diet.

Yes I think everyone should remain skeptical and natural is not always better. However if we have a system that rewards companies for ‘un natural’ fixes which do you think gets studied?

When doctors stop getting kickbacks from the drug companies.

Which is the best cleansing program for natural cures?

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I have read and watched so much media about cleansing programs and would like to know from your experience which program is the best in terms of effectiveness and cost aimed at natural cures.

I’m glad you are looking for something natural to help cure and balance your body. I’m sure a cleanse will work wonders for you.

Let me make a suggestion…
Cleansing is great, and vital to your health, but you need to do it correctly. The purpose of a cleanse (especially if you are fighting a degenerative or chronic disease) is to detox your body AND give your body the nutrients it needs to regenerate clean, healthy cells.

Most cleanses — like the master cleanse — do detox your body, but do nothing for restoring balance to your system. For example, your body is building about 1 billion new cells each day. If you cleanse without flooding your body with super-absorbable nutrients, your body has to create new cells out of whatever is left over in your system after your cleanse– which is usually mineral, vitamin, protein and fat deficient.

Instead, I would do a nutritional cleanse. These cleanses flush your entire system (colon included) of all the junk, while simultaneously flooding your cells with super nutrition. This way, when your body starts building new cells — they are made out of the best "parts" available.

This will help your body regenerate parts of your body that need help (i.e., new pancreas cells if you are diabetic, new skin cells if your suffer from eczema/psoriasis, new neural cells if you suffer from emotional imbalances). Other benefits of this type of cleanse are: eliminating unhealthy cravings, weight loss, better sleep, more energy, sharp intellect and clear skin.

Of course, I am biased, and completely endorse the Isagenix product line :) Here’s a video that explains the Isagenix nutritional cleanses — it’s only a few minutes long…
